Australia’s CPS Backlogged

ALMOST 300 reports of children at risk of abuse in the Northern Territory have not been investigated, despite an independent inquiry last year slamming authorities for allowing a backlog of cases that included a baby who later died. Just eight months after the NT Department of Children and Families was ordered to never allow a repeat of the backlog, it has confirmed there are 290 complaints of suspected child abuse it has yet to begin investigating.

Dozens walk to remember Ethan Stacy and other child abuse victims

FARMINGTON, Utah—Family and friends of Ethan Stacy helped organize a walk against child abuse Saturday in Davis County just over a year after the four-year-old boy’s body was found in Weber County. Blue and white handheld windmills symbolizing support for victims of child abuse were left near the Davis County Jail where Ethan’s mother Stephanie Sloop and step-father Nathan Sloop are incarcerated while waiting for their trial for allegedly torturing and killing Ethan then burying his disfigured remains in Ogden Canyon.

3-YO Left For Dead In Garage

Campbell police are searching for a 35-year-old man they believe severely abused his ex-girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter. The 15-year-old son of the man, identified as George Rodriguez,  found the girl rolled up in a carpet in Rodriguez’s garage at his home in the 1300 block of Pollard Road two weeks ago, police Capt. Charley Adams said. The child is now in protective custody.

CA–Last month, law enforcement officers led by the FBI busted a large, multi-gang prostitution ring in Oceanside. Manolo Guillen, the founder and director of the ACTION Network, said this is not an isolated incident in San Diego County, during a presentation about human trafficking Wednesday at Santee United Methodist.

45-Yr Wait For Justice Is Over

SENTENCED:  John Hall, of Silverdale, Howden, has been jailed for three-and-a-half years for five indecent assaults.

45-year wait for justice is over as man jailed for abusing children when he was 12

FOUR VICTIMS of child abuse have seen the man responsible jailed more than 40 years after he committed the offences. John Hall was just 12 when he indecently assaulted his victims, who were all under the age of 11 at the time. Now 57, Hall was jailed for three-and-a-half-years after his victims contacted police last year.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Stephen Huggins, 24, and Candice Barnes, 28, both of Cleveland, were arraigned this week on charges of endangering children, felonious assault and intimidation of a crime victim in the beatings of two, pre-teen children. They are in the Cuyahoga County Jail on $250,000 bond each.

Facebook paedo Jake Ormerod admits sex abuse (PA)

Jake Ormerod has admitted to grooming and having sex with girls as young as 13 on Facebook as part of a paedophile gang.

The 19-year-old, from Torquay in Devon, is facing 13 charges at Exeter Crown Court following his exploitation of at least eight girls.Vulnerable teens were targeted on Facebook and then plied with alcohol and drugs, before being subjected to sexual abuse. The court heard how the gang had been well-known in the city among homeless children.

Woman Sentenced In 18-MO’s Beating Death

Lolita Marshall, 31, took an Alford plea of guilty to the charge of attempted child abuse and neglect with substantial bodily harm in the death of her son, Larry Boyd, on Nov. 1, 2010.

Man Sentenced To 11-Yrs In Infant Abuse Case

SILVER CITY – An Arenas Valley man will spend 11 years in prison following a plea agreement on charges of criminal sexual contact and child abuse that could have sent him to prison for 36 years. Larry Bledsoe, 55, pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor under the age of 13, a third-degree felony, and two counts of abuse of a child, second offense, a second-degree felony in connection to an incident in March 2010 during which he abused a 3-month old male infant.

Child Abuse Hotline Supervisor Charged With Endangerment

GLENVILLE — Police have arrested the supervisor of a child abuse hotline for allegedly selling marijuana out of her home with three children, all under the age of 6, living at the residence. Glenville police charged Kristen Trapalis, 29, and Richard Dickenson, 39, with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of marijuana after police found four pounds of the drug in the couple’s kitchen, living room and a safe inside their home at 604 S. Holmes St.

DCF lays off 500 workers, claims children will not be affected

The Florida Department of Children and Families began issuing layoff notices Thursday to nearly 500 employees — a move officials said would save taxpayers $48 million while preserving the agency’s protection and care of abused and neglected kids. The layoffs are a result of budget cuts passed by the Florida Legislature and signed into law Thursday by Gov. Rick Scott. They come as the department has faced sharp criticism for its handling of the Barahona case in south Florida.
