Brandon Joshua-Frederick Hayes, right, a former Tyrone Township  resident, sheds tears Monday as his father testifies about the burns he  saw on 4-year-old Dominick Calhoun's hands April 9. Hayes, who showed  little emotion otherwise, is charged with Dominick's beating death.

An 8-year-old boy testified Monday that his mother’s boyfriend abused him and his 4-year-old brother almost since the day they moved in with the former Tyrone Township man.

Child abuse has increased 134% since 1980 and is now considered a worldwide epidemic. The high jump in child abuse deaths and the shocking increase in statistics highlights the frightening lack of public knowledge.
