Blundering council staff ‘forgot’ suspected child abuse victims

Hundreds of suspected child abuse victims were “forgotten” by council staff and wrongly left waiting several weeks to be assessed by social workers, officials admitted.
Mistakes by agency staff at Peterborough City Council left cases involving 230 vulnerable children not being passed on to social services for a month, an inquiry found.

The council receives about 200 referrals of children to social services per week, with at least half usually referred to social workers.
